All
clean paper and paper board, newspapers, flyers, cereal boxes, cigarette
pouches, can labels, cardboard packaging, paper bags, glossy magazines,
waxed cardboard milk containers(please rinse and flatten).
Fruit & Vegetable food scraps, coffee grounds & unbleached filters,
woodstove ash, leaves & grass. NO animal or
fish products PLEASE !
BEVERAGE CONTAINERS ~ GLASS AND PLASTIC
Liquor, wine, soft drink, juice and all other glass, plastic and tin beverage containers are now refundable in BC The CLOSEST refund bottle depots are located on Denman Island and Courtenay. We accept beverage containers as donations. The revenues from these refundables pay handling and shipping costs.
PLASTIC
All clean plastic containers & lids-- All except #3 clear plastic with
a blue tinge-these contain PVCs. Milk jugs are great. Please rinse thoroughly.
Clean, dry soft plastic grocery, bread & produce bags. METAL
All clean tin and aluminum cans, (please wash & remove labels) All scrap
metal, appliances. If the appliance has a second life, please indicate
the repairs needed to render it useful to someone else. We will set aside clean glass jars suitable for canning All other glass containers are accepted - we store glass on site and encourage its reuse as clean fill and in the base mixture for concrete. Second Hand Clothes and appliances, toys, books, kitchenware,
bikes ect. ect.
is deposited in the dumpster and trucked to the Regional Landfill
at Pidgeon Lake. There really isn't a lot of TRUE GARBAGE. As yet,
we can not recycle saran wrap, styrofoam meat and vegetable trays 'crinkly'
plastic containers (blue tinge) disposable diapers & tissues: meat scraps,
plastic bubbles from packaging: blister packs, aluminum foil, some toothpaste
tubes, dead shoes, throwaway items - razors, lighters. We can't possibly
name it all. If in doubt ask us. |
