Walk through the grand entranceway and the ocean sparkles through the huge expanse of glass sliding doors. You’ve arrived at a place of harmony, healing and reflection – a very private Hornby Island sanctuary.
This home is a design masterpiece, created by the famed Blue Sky architectural design team. It hovers over the cliff-side of Tribune Bay with the sparkling turquoise and blue water. Whether sipping wine or reading a book, you will experience total serenity and privacy – hearing the whoosh as eagles soar past at eye level. Enjoy yacht-watching while listening to waves lapping against the shore below.
When you come to the Crow’s Nest, there is little to pack – this home has it all. The huge custom-built kitchen features top-of-the line appliances (Sub-Zero, Viking and Miele), custom-built cabinets of edge grain fir, tons of counter space (stainless steel and butcher block), a cappuccino maker, Cuisinart, blender, heated tile floor and windows overlooking ocean and mountains. Enjoy your meals at a huge pine harvest table. Select a book from the extensive library, turn on some music and sink into the living room’s oversized chairs – or watch one of the many movies supplied. Or – just contemplate the beauty of the cherry flooring throughout.
Entering the Master Suite, you will think you are staying at a spa. There is a Tempurpedic king-size bed with fine Italian Sferra linens and a goose down duvet. The sound of the waves whispering through open windows helps you sink into a deep restful sleep. The huge en-suite bathroom features a tub, steam shower, heated stone floor, skylight and windows overlooking the bay. Steps from the bed, walk out onto the deck with lounge chairs to sleep or read on.
The Crow’s nest is all about intimacy and privacy. It’s ideal for two people seeking reconnection and rejuvenation. It’s a place to reconnect with the important things in life. Artists, architects and musicians have unanimously found inspiration here – and not just from the physical amenities – stunning art collection of paintings, wood sculptures, pottery and Persian carpets. This is the place where busy professionals come to escape the demands of daily life and reconnect with the beauty of the ocean.
If you must bring your laptop, there is wireless and Apple Air, but we hope you can embrace the specialness of Hornby, and enjoy life as a couple – the real world can wait! Walk out the front door, turn right and stroll to world-famous Helliwell Park for the walk of a lifetime. Or turn left and stroll through the forest to reach the beach – a kilometer of white sand. There is an extensive network of paths through the forest on our common property of 250 acres. You will rarely encounter anyone else on these trails. Pick herbs from the garden. Search the bay and far horizons beyond the bay through the telescope. Search the sky for constellations overhead – invisible in the glare of city life.
This is a home with attention to every detail. It is extremely well maintained with exceptional quality wherever you look.
The owners of this property will be on-site periodically in the separate private guesthouse. They are avid sailors and prefer to be off exploring the coastline on their sailboat. If they are on the property, they will totally respect your privacy, but be available to help you find the perfect piece of art from local studios or find the very best experiences that Hornby has to offer.

“Now this is a place that is hard to leave! I am enjoying my last breakfast, looking out over the glass smooth and deep cerulean blue bay, the wind breathing through the arbutus and fir trees. The morning light flickers on the trees and the beautiful arbutus bark and branches. Yes, it is magic, but it also the product of a sustained inquiry into the nature of this site, the nature of a life lived fully and the fulfillment of risks taken and the beauty captured in that adventure. Thank you for making this place, for putting your intelligence and resources into the creation of a unique and special work of art. And your great generosity in sharing this with others people. We feel blessed and grateful and much more alive!”
